In light of what is happening in the world at the moment, I thought I would take the time to simply share some great tips with you.
For many, myself included adapting to working from home can be difficult.
It was once said… “You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf. If you have control, take it. If you don’t, do your best to let it go.”
Sitting here preparing for a period of home working, speaking with colleagues and others we’ve been asking for advice and tips on the most productive way to WFH.
I am a firm believer, particularly in testing times like these that it is important to distinguish between things we have control over and those we don’t.
So with that being said, what can we control?…
Ensuring you have a structure to your day. By getting up at your usual time and getting dressed for the office, you undoubtedly get into the mind set of work and therefore will be more productive.
It is important you create a particular space, with limited distractions, where you can work and stay focused.
There is always temptation to not work as hard as you would in the office but in times like these, people are at home. You will have the option to speak with people and get things done, so keep to your typical working hours with a good lunch break to break up your day and see the children, dog, cat, rabbit etc.
Take the added time of no commute and work out. Keep fit and healthy, so you can keep calm and carry on.
With potential added time on your hands, invest in yourself. Broaden your knowledge and read that book you have been meaning to for so long!
End your day with a particular routine – just as you should start your day with a routine, create a habit that signals the close of the workday i.e. an evening dog walk, shutting down your computer or a home exercise class.
Socialize With Colleagues – it can feel lonely and you can feel disconnected when alone WFH. Some companies might suggest and offer ways to keep colleagues socializing – potentially through online meetings. If you’re not at a company with a strong remote culture, you may need to be more proactive to ensure you have regular interaction.
Schedule regular breaks for yourself to get up and walk around, so you keep motivated.
Most important of all, stay safe KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON.
