In need of two points? Ask the Dolphins.

The NFL is a copycat league and you never know where you may take inspiration from.

Sean McVay, coach of the Los Angeles Rams, hosts a podcast called “Flying Coach” with Peter Schrager, host of Good Morning Football on NFL Network.

On a recent show, following an interview with Joe Judge, coach of the New York Giants, McVay was asked for his favorite “big-brain” call from the 2021 season.

“I don’t know that I’ve had a big-brain play but a good copy play might’ve been the two-point play that we scored against the Packers where we ended up throwing a perimeter screen to Van Jefferson and then he flipped it to Cam Akers coming out of the backfield,” McVay said. “Greatest coaches, greatest thieves. Stole that one from the Miami Dolphins via Shane Waldron finding it. Look out for that on the Seattle Seahawks film next year.”

Dolphins fans watching the Rams play the Packers in the playoffs instantly recognized the play, one Miami used to take a six-point lead over the Patriots late in the regular season.

While it wasn’t the hook and ladder trick play from 1981, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagolvailoa tossed the ball to Isaiah Ford, who flipped it to Salvon Ahmed.

Miami made it look easy, strolling into the endzone on the two-point try.

McVay mentioning that the greatest coaches are also the greatest thieves is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of insight provided on “Flying Coach.”

Produced by The Ringer, “Flying Coach” is a must-listen for football fans everywhere. The podcast, which is in its second season and releases new episodes weekly, has featured Troy Aikman, Kyle Shanahan and Judge as guests.
