This Green Bay Packers vs. New Orleans Saints game will be played with a background of emotion given the recent devastation to the New Orleans area following Hurricane Ida. With the game set to be played on a neutral field in Jacksonville, let’s take a look at the current NFL odds, TV channel, how to live stream, and a prediction for the Packers vs. Saints Week 1 NFL game.
Green Bay Packers vs. New Orleans Saints | Week 1 preview and prediction
Turbulent offseasons have been the name of the game for many NFL teams, and these two franchises are no different. The Aaron Rodgers saga dominated headlines all summer until he quasi-reluctantly returned for another season in Green Bay.
Meanwhile, the Saints first had the retirement of Drew Brees to contend with, followed by a quarterback battle between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill. Amongst that was the salary-cap enforced reduction in defensive talent at the Saints’ disposal. However, Hurricane Ida put all of that “turmoil” into perspective for New Orleans.
We are left with two playoff teams from last year kicking off their seasons under strange circumstances. The Saints are effectively homeless to start the season, while we have no idea how the Rodgers situation will affect the Packers heading into the season.
Packers vs. Saints prediction
Even before this game was forced onto a neutral field, this was a situation favoring the Packers. The Saints still have talented players on their defense, but the strength in depth is not what it once was. While Green Bay’s defense lacks in certain areas (linebacker, for example), they should have the upper hand on D.
Offensively, Rodgers has Davante Adams and the returning Randall Cobb at his disposal. Meanwhile, the absence of Michael Thomas leaves Winston looking at Marquez Callaway and Tre’Quan Smith as his leading options. Winston can perform magic when he is on, but this looks like a tough ask for the Saints to pull out what would be an emotional Week 1 victory.

Odds for Packers vs. Saints
Odds from DraftKings sportsbook
Spread: Packers -3.5
Moneyline: Packers -210, Saints +175
Over/Under: 50 (Over -110, Under -110)
This spread feels somewhat too low given the neutral field. At home in the Caesars Superdome, a 3-point spread would be about right. On a neutral field, the Packers should probably be favored by around 4.5 to 5 points. While the Saints will likely play with plenty of emotion in the early stages, the impact of a turbulent few weeks will likely catch up to them in the second half.
Instinctively, when you think of these two teams, you would think of the over. They combined for 67 points in September 2020. Still, the circumstances were very different. That game was played inside a dome and with Brees under center. If Winston gets clicking, then the over is in play. If he struggles, however, this feels like a grind-it-out Packers’ win with Aaron Jones heavily featured.
