Indiana Jones 5: What Do We Know?

When an image of Harrison Ford on the set of the new Indiana Jones film surfaced on the internet in June 2021, the internet went insane. Who doesn’t love movies about Indiana Jones? They have all you’ve ever wanted and more: great plot, action, amazing actors, and good soundtracks (you’re whistling the theme song now, aren’t you?). When you watch Indy’s adventures, you want to be there too, feel the thrill of it all, as if you’ve walked into the best casino you’ve ever seen, and plan on doing the most elaborate heist. At least that’s how the Raiders of The Lost Ark felt. We’ve had amazing 4 movies so far, and Disney has announced the 5th movie back in 2015. A lot of things have happened since then, but what do we know about the new movie so far?

When is Indiana Jones 5 Coming Out?

It has faced numerous delays and gone through various draft scripts from a variety of screenwriters since it was first announced, as well as a high-profile change in director, with Steven Spielberg being replaced by James Mangold (Logan, Ford v Ferrari). Indiana Jones 5 was slated to hit theaters in July of 2019. The date was then pushed back to July 10th, 2020, however, it didn’t premiere either. Disney has once again pushed back the release date, this time it was supposed to happen on July 9th, 2021. However, since 2020 is the year of postponements and cancellations for obvious reasons, it’s hardly surprising that the premiere has been pushed back until July 29th, 2022.

What do we Know About the Cast?

Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Indiana Jones, but no additional returning actors or characters from the franchise’s prior episodes have been confirmed. In the fifth film of the Indiana Jones franchise, there will be a slew of new characters. Although their specific roles in the film are unknown, the following actors have been confirmed to appear: Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag and Solo: A Star Wars Story), Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Shaunette Renee Wilson (The Resident), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), and Toby Jones (Logan) (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). On July 15th, Antonio Banderas was confirmed as a new addition to the cast.

What do we Know About the Script so far?

The plot elements for the fifth Indiana Jones film are currently unknown, but Karen Allen’s statements that the franchise is on a “whole new trajectory” are very intriguing. Everything has been kept very well under the wraps, however, there are a few things we can either deduct by clues that we’ve been given along the way.

Mikkelsen will play a villain (again), who will be pitted against Harrison Ford’s heroic archaeologist Indiana Jones. You have to give it to him though, he plays the bad guys brilliantly. Mikkelsen, supposedly, will play a Nazi scientist in the film. According to the narrative, he will be hired by the US government to work on NASA’s effort to land on the Moon. The villain will get help from a CIA curator who will be in charge of the scientist. Shaunette will be portrayed by Renee Wilson. Нe’ll have the help of a specific villainesse, “a horrible and brutal killer.” Scarlett Johansson was reportedly considered for the role of antagonist, but she declined, according to reports.

The events of Indiana Jones 5 will take place in the late 1960s, during the height of the space race. According to some websites, the movie will contain information about Operation Paperclip, a program that aimed to recruit Third Reich scientists to work in the United States. It’s worth noting that Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed this information, so until they do, proceed with caution!

We cannot wait!
