Giants vs. Rams predictions: BBV staff unanimous in picking LA

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Giants are heavy underdogs, and there is little reason to believe they can pull off an upset

Do the 1-4 New York Giants, fielding a JV lineup without many of their best players, have any chance of defeating the 4-1 Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at MetLife Stadium? Oddsmakers don’t think so, with DraftKings Sportsbook listing the Giants as 9.5-point underdogs. Even your Big Blue View contributors are unanimous this week that the Giants will be 1-5 by day’s end.

The Giants enter the game with a massive injury list. Saquon Barkley and Kenny Golladay won’t play. Daniel Jones (concussion) seems unlikely to clear the league’s concussion protocol in time. Left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot) is still not practicing. Left guard Matt Skura did not practice on Wednesday. Linebacker Blake Martinez and offensive linemen Nick Gates and Shane Lemieux are out for the year.

Every puncher has a chance, and the Giants will be in the arena Sunday afternoon, so there is that. Still, reality is that a Giants’ victory is highly unlikely. Here are some of the reasons BBV contributors offered for picking the Rams. Click the quote marks next to each pick for the full explanations.

Joseph Czikk

“Sorry, Giants fans. There’s no way Big Blue beats the Rams. Sean McVay’s offense will be unrelenting on Sunday and the Giants defense doesn’t stand a chance.”

Jeremy Portnoy

“You should do something relaxing on Sunday. Read a book, maybe start a jigsaw puzzle. Anything to avoid watching what is shaping up to be one of the most lopsided regular season games in recent memory.”

Valentine’s View

“You’re kidding, right? There is zero reason to think the Giants have a chance to upset the Rams on Sunday. Other than the fact that I’m picking LA and haven’t gotten a game right yet, of course.”
