Giants elevate C.J. Board from practice squad to active roster

The New York Giants have elevated wide receiver C.J. Board from their practice squad to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

It’s been a strange and winding road for Board, who made the 53-man roster but then had his contract terminated only to immediately re-signed to the team’s practice squad.

Interestingly, the Giants didn’t elevate anyone else. Despite concerns at the tight end position, they left all other practice squad players in place.

Board, meanwhile, figures to play a prominent role in Week 1. He is the team’s primary kick returner and although rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney may field one or two, most will be handled by Board.

It’s also possible Board takes some offensive snaps. He has developed a rapport with quarterback Daniel Jones over the past two years and is more than capable at wide receiver.

Per NFL rules, Board will return to the practice squad following the game.
