Giants at Browns Score: Live updates, highlights, for today’s Week 2 preseason game

This week’s Sunday afternoon game saw the New York Giants face the Cleveland Browns. Both teams were looking to build on differing performances last week. In the article below, we took you every step of the way, bringing you the score and highlights from the Giants vs. Browns game.

Giants vs. Browns score

This game started fast with both Case Keenum and Mike Glennon leading their teams for touchdowns. The Browns’ offense especially looked slick on its first drive or two. However, an interception in the end zone stopped a second score. After that, neither side could keep up the intensity into the second quarter.

With few starters on either side, this game was about the backup roles and the young players. Demetric Felton had 8 carries for 25 yards and pulled in one catch for 12 yards on 2 targets. On the defense, it was Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Greg Newsome who drew the attention early. Neither stood out in a good way, but neither made any stand-out plays in a bad way either.

This game really faded in the second half. Kyle Lauletta and Brian Lewerke could not move these offenses with any consistency. In their defense, though, neither could the “starting” QBs in this game either.

After a start that promised so much, this game faded away drastically in the second half. The one bright spot in the second half was the play of John Kelly, who had a rough game in Week 1 but bounced back in a big way in Week 2.

Giants and Browns highlights and updates

4:03 PM ET: The Giants manage to convert a 3rd-and-19 with a 29-yard pass. They then also convert a 4th-and-6 followed by a 4th-and-8. However, time runs out on them, and Cleveland takes the victory.

3:50 PM ET: John Kelly is lighting up this game in the second half. He has dominated this drive with 35 yards on 3 carries and a catch. The Browns’ drive stalls at the Giants’ 31, and Chase McLaughlin kicks a 49-yard FIELD to extend the lead to 4.

3:38 PM ET: Lewerke gets the Giants moving, including a 20-yard run on a QB keeper. A facemask penalty gets the Giants inside the red zone. TOUCHDOWN. Lewerke finds David Sills in the end zone for the score. The Giants go for two, and thanks to a penalty, get 2 attempts but still cannot convert.

3:20 PM ET: Brian Lewerke looked like he had gotten things moving for the Giants, but they could only manage 30 yards before having to punt the ball away again. Heading into the 4th quarter, the intensity has really dropped in this game.

3:05 PM ET: After the Giants muster just 20 yards of offense, the Browns look to be on the move again. They get to the Giants’ 35-yard line, before a quick whistle on a sack ends the drive.

2:50 PM ET: TOUCHDOWN. Cleveland start at their own 44, and Lauletta rips off 2 impressive passes to get them on the edge of the red zone. They then hand the ball to John Kelly on 2 straight plays, and he finds the end zone.

2:45 PM ET: After opening the half with a 16-yard completion, Lauletta cannot get anything else going, and the Browns punt back to the Giants. Brian Lewerke is in at QB for the Giants, but he cannot get anything going on his first drive.

2:20 PM ET: Lauletta works his way to midfield and then takes a shot deep down the field to JoJo Natson and KhaDarel Hodge, but the pair cannot come down with the ball at the 10-yard line. In a Hail Mary situation, Lauletta tries to scramble and make a play but is hit hard at the 20-yard line and fumbles, ending the half.

2:05 PM ET: The Giants at least get to midfield on this drive, but that is all they manage. After their punt, the Browns turn the offense over to Kyle Lauletta, who was drafted by the Giants. With 1:50 remaining in the half, he has 93 yards to reach the Giants’ end zone.

1:55 PM ET: Now it is the Browns’ turn for a three-and-out. The last 6 offensive plays have combined for 5 yards.

1:50 PM ET: The Giants cannot take advantage and go three-and-out before punting back to Cleveland. After a fun start, this game has become a little bogged down.

1:43 PM ET: INTERCEPTION. Keenum had a ton of time and tries to thread the ball to the back of the end zone. Quincy Wilson has other ideas, stepping in front of the pass and returning it 22 yards to the Giants’ 15-yard line.

1:40 PM ET: This drive has been less crisp from the Browns. They have still moved the chains with reasonable ease, but not at the rate they were. A defensive interference penalty on 3rd-and-12 extends the drive and takes the Browns inside the red zone.

1:30 PM ET: A balanced attack from the Giants on this drive, with 3 carries and 4 passing plays putting them inside the Browns’ 40-yard line. Glennon then finds Rysen John in the middle of the field for 24 yards. TOUCHDOWN. Booker dives in to level up the scoring. Nice drive from Glennon and the Giants.

Alright Mike Glennon I see you.

1:20 PM ET: This has been an entertaining start from Cleveland. They are moving at a high tempo and pulling the Giants’ defense all over the field. Four of their first six plays went for more than 10 yards. TOUCHDOWN. The Browns go for it on 4th down and KhaDarel Hodge reels in the ball to open the scoring.

1:15 PM ET: The Browns will have Case Keenum under center as they continue to protect Baker Mayfield from potential injury. He starts with a completion to Jordan Franks on a 7-yard gain. Cleveland is rolling with big gains for D’Ernest Johnson and JoJo Natson on the ground for first downs.

1:10 PM ET: Mike Glennon starts under center for the Giants, but it is the running game that starts off hot. C.J. Board goes 9 yards on his first carry before Devontae Booker matches him with his first attempt. The Giants drive comes to an end on 3rd-and-4 after a bobbled catch from WR Alex Bachman. Demetric Felton with a nice punt return for the Browns.
